It has recently also adopted the capability of slicing for either SLA / FDM 3D Printers but IMHO you'd better be off just exporting a 3MF to your regular Slicer of choice ( like SuperSlicer - A PrusaSlicer Fork ) as I find that portion of it still needing some more refinement. My vote would have to be Autodesk Fusion 360 which has a free License option that should still check all the necessary bookmarks you'd need at the cost of some limitations like only being able of working on 10 files simultaneously critical only to someone practically running a business with it by which time you should really be paying the like $1.20/day it costs.į360 comes with practically industry standard CAM capabilities which would allow you to work on CNC Machines ( Hobby ones included ) if you so desire. There are some really good YouTube channels to get you started on really any of them. I’d say you can’t go wrong with any of the hobbyist, even fusion 360 if you use the free version (fairly nerfed now). Some have a huge user base with great tutorials and a large support network, some are impossible to get help outside of industry. The learning curve can be steep on some, some skills are transferable, some are not. It really boils down to what your needs are. If you’re model making figurines, surface models with organic shapes you would want to go with blender ( which now has parametric function I think) or 3D max (enterprise). These are priced between 500 annually to 20k, big gap in price but tailored for your needs. I personally have used this as a professional and hobbyist for 7 years), solidworks (my preferred cad, about $5k to start), inventor, creo, and pro-e. On the enterprise level, fusion 360 (borderline hobbyist, cheapest of all but it’s basically rent only. These are the CAD platforms that range from free to around $1k.
Within the realm of hobbyist, try tinkercad, freecad, Alibre, rhyno, and google sketchup.
